About Me
Hi there! My name is Stephanie Williams and I have been passionate about adoption since childhood. After watching a made for television movie about a couple adopting a little girl from South Korea, I felt a very clear call from God that adoption was in His plan for my life. Twenty years later, my husband and I adopted our daughter Sophia from China, and later, our son Noah from South Korea. The next twenty years I worked my way up the ranks at different adoption agencies. I began as an intern for my social work practicum in 2003 and volunteered at CCAI’s Chinese orphanage sponsorship program in 2004. In 2005, I returned to the agency where I had completed my internship as a home study case worker and honed my skills in adoption curriculum development, expectant mother counseling, and in international adoption. In 2015, I began working for another agency where I wore many “hats” and titles until I was appointed Executive Director in 2022. In all that time, both personally and professionally, I navigated the trauma, joy, anxiety, miracles, and complexity of adoption.
As my job titles and responsibilities grew, however, my work focused less and less on the actual people involved in the process and more on administrative tasks. When my children entered adolescence, I became increasingly concerned about the status of the children I had helped place as they, like my own children, began the process of identity formation. I also felt concern for adoptive and birth parents and wondered if they had the tools and support to navigate the hard parts of adoption. In March 2024, I ended my career in child placement to instead focus on pre- and post- adoptive support and education for all members of the adoption triad. I am passionate about using the wisdom, experience, and knowledge I have gained to help the adoption community in an organic and authentic way. So much emphasis is placed on the process of adoption, and not as much on the care and support of those in the adoption community. I feel that I am returning to the root of my love for adoption – the people involved. I believe that employing empathy and informed interpersonal communication skills are the keys to healing and developing healthier relationships, which is my goal in all of the services I offer.
